Applying for a Rental Unit

The search for a rental unit can sometimes be a long and frustrating experience. Below you will find a checklist of information that will assist you in your search. While you may only be able to provide some of the information, the more you have the easier it will be for you to obtain a rental.

	UNIT INFORMATION
		1) What area do you wish to live? 2) What type and size of unit are you interested in? 3) What is the price range you wish to stay in? 4) Furnished or Partly Furnished? 5) Check any of the following: Pets, smoker, parking/how     many, W/D, A/C, secure building, pool,...
	PERSONAL INFORMATION
		1) Letters of employment, referral, reference 2) Tax returns 3) Bank Statements 4) School information-acceptance, registration, financial aid,     scholarships, grants etc. 5) Credit Report-within 1 month 6) Pay Statements
	COMPLETED APPLICATION
		1) Fill out application completely. 2) Provide back up documentation for information     on application. 3) Sign and date application. 4) Notate which unit you are applying for. 5) When do you want to move in? 6) How long did you need the unit for? 7) Who is the unit for?

The above information should be compiled and completed prior to attending any showing. Once you have viewed the property and would like to proceed, give the packet of information to the property manager/landlord. Be prepared to put down a deposit on the unit to show your interest and intent. Although we do not, some rental agents may charge an application fee. Fees may run $10-25 per person.

Searching for a Rental Unit

Looking through the newspaper or rental listing can be overwhelming and confusing. Ads and listings are placed by many different individuals. Even listings for the same type of unit in the same building may read completely different. How do you navigate through all the listings? Below are some guidelines to assist you in your search for the right rental unit for you.

	Furnished or Partly Furnished-What does that mean?
		1) Fully furnished-includes linens, kitchenware, appliances. 2) Furnished-includes furniture and appliances. 3) Partly furnished-includes appliances only. 4) Unfurnished-No furniture and no appliances.
	Types of Buildings
		1) Walk up apartments 2) Condominiums 3) Townhouse 4) Single family residences

	What rental rate are you willing to pay?
		The rental rate will vary dependent upon the size, location and condition of the unit.

Tenant FAQs

How do I get to see a rental unit?
Normally an appointment is scheduled with the property manager in advance.

How long does the application process take?
It would depend on the information provided, however we try to respond within 24 hours.

How much money do I need to move into a rental unit?
You need the first month's rent and 1 months security deposit.

How much is the security deposit?
The security deposit is equal to 1 months rent.

What other expenses might I incur?
Electric, Gas, Water, Sewer, Phone, Cable, Building Registration, Security Key deposit.

I'm moving into a condominium. What should I do before I move in?
Register with the building. Reserve the elevator for your move in. Call the utility companies to start service.
